Chris Sharkey

Performance Enhancement Specialist and Conditioning Coach, Performance Manager 

Chris comes to the Acumen Reconditioning team with enthusiasm, keenness, knowledge and experience. As an athlete, Chris experienced the benefit and rewards provided by a personal trainer/coach himself. Chris played competitive hockey and worked his way throughout his career at the AAA, JR.A, and WHL levels. He understands the steps needed during this important journey to get to the “next level” and ensures maintenance of high-level performance.

It has now been a few years since Chris was side-lined from contact sport due to post-concussion symptoms. His love and desire to be competitive still burned bright as he discovered bodybuilding. He has since taken on the responsibility to bring his own body to its peak potential, transforming from a skinny goaltender to a less skinny, more muscular and toned personal trainer. Chris has competed in two bodybuilding shows: ABBA Northerns Men’s Physique 2016 (8th place) and 2017 (6th place). However, his true passion lies in coaching others to their fitness potential and training our young athletes of tomorrow.

Chris has dedicated himself to being a fountain of knowledge!   His lifelong commitment to continuing education in the fitness and nutrition field plays a large role in his patient/client care. Chris has worked with a variety of people from hard-working business executives, avid gym-goers looking to gain confidence, bodybuilding, high caliber athletes individually or team training. Chris is your guy to help reach your goals. Now in collaboration with Acumen Reconditioning, Chris will listen to you, your goals and aspirations, and ultimately guide you on the path to “Transform Yourself”.

Biggest mentor or motivator?

My family would be my biggest motivator, following me through my entire hockey career, cheering me on, supporting me and always being a shoulder to lean on. They put up with my early mornings and late nights and countless hours of working out to become the best strength and conditioning coach I can be.

Prior to becoming an Acumen team member I followed a lot of industry leaders, none of which have been as helpful as my time with Athletic Therapist LeeAnne Gullett and Dr. Jesse Slade Schantz.


If you could be invisible, whose conversations would you like to overhear?

If I could be invisible and understand animals I would love to listen to what my dog, Kilo Shark says about his mom and I as well as what he is saying to other dogs at the park. I mean who wouldn’t want to know!


If you had a superpower but could only use it once a month, what would it be?

I think it would be amazing to be able to hold my breath long enough or the ability to breathe under water to swim with the sharks…. my ancestors ;).


Favourite holiday?

Christmas! The family time and relaxation. All the christmas movies and my guilty pleasure, having chocolate for breakfast on christmas morning. One day out of the year absolutely guilt free.


How do you like your coffee? or caffeine?

Not a coffee guy, I tried. I don’t like the taste but love the smell. I drink amino acids with caffeine in them as a replacement. Let’s be honest, trainers need caffeine to manage our early mornings and late nights.
